On-line Exchange Meeting of the School of Economics with Stanford MBA and Graduate Students

September 18, 2020

The School of Economics and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Okayama University, with cooperation from the Okayama Prefectural Government, held an on-line exchange meeting (in English) with Master of Business Administration (MBA) course students and graduate students at Stanford University on September 16, 2020. Two MBA students and three graduate students (Japanese alumni) at Stanford participated. About 20 students and school members of Okayama University participated, along with about six people from the Okayama Prefectural Government.

The theme of this meeting, economic and management strategies for community revitalization, also has significance with regard to achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which are being promoted throughout Okayama University. Five students under the guidance of Specially Appointed Professor Ryohei Nakamura (undergraduate students in the School of Economics and graduate students) reported the results of their analysis of the structure of Okayama Prefecture’s regional economy. Also, in response to problems with ways of getting around brought on by the aging of society, a junior year student in the School of Economics announced a solution through Ride Share as a form of social business.

A lively discussion was held in English with the MBA and graduate students at Stanford, providing a valuable learning opportunity for the students. What is really significant is that through exchange meetings like this utilizing on-line capabilities, it is possible not only for students overseas, but also working members of society to participate in these discussions. The School of Economics and Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences would like to create other opportunities like this in the future.
